Our Junior Secondary students engage and learn in a caring and highly supportive environment to develop their academic, social, emotional and physical movement skills.

Year 7 students are closely supported and nurtured to settle into secondary school life. We offer a seamless transition from primary school to secondary learning by providing Year 7 students with a dedicated learning and play space along with core classes in Years 7 and 8 for English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Health and Physical Education. Our Junior Secondary curriculum is designed to allow students to experience a range of subjects from seven (7) key learning areas of the Australian Curriculum.

In Junior Secondary, students also learn personal resilience and respectful relationships through a Personal and Social Capabilities Program which is integrated into the Health and Physical Education course. With these learning experiences, as well as teachers who understand what adolescent learners need to be successful, our Junior Secondary students are able to develop their sense of belonging and connectedness with the College in order to achieve their best.

  • The STELLAR program for academic extension is a unique program designed to extend the more academically able students. Year 5 and 6 students within primary cluster schools also participate in the STELLAR program, experiencing a secondary school setting which enables access to specialised learning areas.
  • Talented sportsmen and women are also catered for through the Heatley Pride Sports Academy where they will have the opportunity to specialise in Football (Soccer), Rugby League and Volleyball.
  • Our Creative Arts and Technologies Academy brings students into our state of the art TCTC and our new Performing Arts Centre where they will explore game design, animation, programming, art, drama and dance to develop 21st Century skills.
  • Learning Support programs are provided in the areas of literacy and numeracy to students needing extra support. It is offered through Focussed Literacy and/or Focussed Numeracy, and is aimed at developing skills that students need for their core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Humanities. Students who undertake these subjects are those identified as below the National Minimum Standards in their Year 5 or 7 NAPLAN data. Also taken into account will be school based PAT testing and their subject area results.
